Pastoral Care and Fellowship

“He comforts us in all our troubles. Now we can comfort others when they are in trouble”

2 Corinthians 1: 4

Within the cycle of life, we are often faced with challenges that can easily leave us feeling alone, depressed, unsure, and even scared.

Pastoral Care and Fellowship seeks to reinforce the Good News that Jesus cares. In Joshua 1, His word assures us that he will always be with us. He says, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.”  There is comfort in knowing that Jesus Christ is right there with us every step of the way through the good times and troubling times.

Faith Presbyterian Church has capable and committed Pastoral Care servants who are ready to assist with the difficulties that life brings. Whether it is visitation during a hospital stay; spiritual support to cancer patients and caregivers; or comfort during the loss of a loved one, we will help you get “connected” with our pastoral care services.

Christian Fellowship at Faith Presbyterian Church is exciting and very much alive and draws in many of our surrounding neighbors. We offer a full gamut of activities for all ages ranging from Saturday afternoon games and “good eats”, popular theme-based dinners, Men’s Breakfast, Day trips for Seniors, to knitting and crocheting prayer shawls for the sick and shut-ins.

Below is a glimpse at the Pastoral Care and Fellowship programs offered at Faith Presbyterian Church.

Pastoral Care Programs

Board of Deacons.  Our Deacons (members elected and ordained by the congregation) support the church by regularly contacting you, praying for you and providing pastoral care.  Care activities include providing meals to the shut-ins; van, flower and card ministries; and gathering food for Westminster’s food pantry.  The Deacons also host an annual community Strawberry Festival in the spring and several church meals throughout the year.  To find out more about the Deacons please click here.

Stephen Ministry.  Stephen Ministry is Christ caring for people through people.  It is a Christian, one-on-one, confidential, care-giving ministry administered by trained Stephen Ministers. Our Stephen Ministers are congregational members that have been recruited, selected, trained, and commissioned to provide care to persons facing crisis, loss or significant life transition.  It is an extension of the pastor and pastoral care, helping those that may need care for six months or longer. To find out more about the Stephen Ministry please click here.

Cancer Support Group.  Faith’s Cancer Support Group provides emotional, educational, spiritual and social support to Faith’s cancer survivors and families and to those receiving cancer treatment.

C.A.R.E. Packages.  It has long been a tradition at Faith to send our member College students and Military personnel C.A.R.E. Packages.  C.A.R.E. packages consist of school supplies, small convenience food items, snacks, personal hygiene items, and a few surprises to show them how much we C.A.R.E.

Care Notes.  Complimentary “Care Note” booklets are available to our members and guests. These compact booklets offer strength, help and healing for those who are hurting.  Some of the topics addressed are: dealing with anger, grieving the loss of your parent, know how to say no to drugs and alcohol – a kid’s guide, dealing with gossip when it’s about you – teens, and getting through the first weeks and months after the funeral.

Funeral Meals.  During times of sorrow, Faith wants to be there to meet your needs. We will coordinate and provide meals for funerals at the church upon request from the family.

Fellowship Programs

Crafty Foxes.  A dedicated group of people of all ages gathers once a month to knit and crochet together, to pray together, and to reflect on the goodness of God’s love for all of us.  From this union, they have created Warm Up America afghans, prayer shawls, chemo caps, rag rugs, slippers, fuzzy scarves, lap blankets, shrugs, bed jackets, polar fleece blankets, and patchwork quilts just to name a few.  These items are then prayerfully donated to cancer patients, nursing homes, shelters, Habitat for Humanity, and local missions. This group welcomes all skill levels. Even if you don’t know how to knit or crochet but would like to learn, this is the place for you. Lessons are ongoing.

Card Sharks.  When the Sharks circle it’s a Saturday afternoon filled with fun, food and games for all ages. An assortment of games are played such as Euchre, Canasta, Bridge, Dungeons and Dragons, Dominos, Candy Land, Kings In The Corner, Spades, Hearts, Crazy 8, Go Fish, Whist, Old Maid, and Gin Rummy. All experience levels are welcomed, especially beginners, because a Shark is always willing to teach you how to dive in.

Men’s Breakfast.  This Saturday morning fellowship is designed especially for men. The men plan it, cook it, and serve it.  They meet once a month and feature guest speakers covering topics from model railroading, Prostate cancer, sharing the road with 4-wheelers, raising and training falcons, Homeland Security, financial planning, Panmunjom Peace Talks, and much more.  Men of all ages are welcome and the food is excellent.

Let’s Go Seniors.  Come joy ride with the Seniors, both young and old, as they fellowship and visit historic Indiana landmarks and dine on the best neighborhood cuisine around town.  Some of the day trips have taken them to Grover’s Museum in Shelbyville, Hollyhock Hill restaurant, Indiana Medical History Museum, Gray’s cafeteria, and many more.

Irish Stew and You.  Come experience an Irish-themed night of adult fellowship that includes Irish stew accompanied by green salads and desserts, a movie, and Irish folk songs galore. No need to worry if you can’t hold a tune because with the volume of laughter and chatter among old acquaintances and new friends no one will hear you anyway. Of course this all takes place on a Saturday night close to St. Patty’s day to capture the luck of the Irish.

Progressive Dinner.  Who wouldn’t love to go to a fabulous dinner party with lots of friends where you don’t have to cook and you don’t have to clean your house?  Then plan to attend Faith’s annual Adult Progressive Dinner where you gather at one member’s home for appetizers, then progress to the next home where a salad is served, then on to the next home for the main course, and then for dessert to the last home to round out the evening.  This is just one of the many activities hosted by Faith that allows you to make new friends and to rekindle old friendships.

Health Care Programs

Flu and Pneumonia Inoculation.  Flu and Pneumonia shots are offered to the congregation each year for a nominal fee.

Blood Drives.  Faith hosts several Blood Drives throughout the year for the convenience of its members.

Wellness Preparedness.  Faith is not only committed to sharing in your spiritual wellness but also in your physical and mental wellness.  We have featured guest speakers who have addressed prostate cancer, aging, and dialyses just to name a few.
